Gen Y Through Other Eyes
Below are a few quotes from articles, books, and other publications shedding light on others' perceptions of the "Y" generation.
"The Kennedy Tragedy for them is the plane crash, not an assassination. Someone named George Bush has been on every national ticket but one since they were born. There have always been ATM machines and round the clock coverage of news and public affairs on cable. They've never used a bottle of White Out or heard a telephone actually ring."- Wally Bock, The Digital Age Storyteller
"Teens' expectations are rising. They've been accustomed to better quality products, such as Starbucks’ Frappuccino, and more sophisticated retail environments. They're trading McDonald’s neon glare for Starbuck's velvet lounges and smooth jazz sounds."- Irma Zandi, President of The Zandi Group
"Most marketers perceive them as kids. When you do that, you fail to take in what they are telling you about the consumers they're becoming."- J. Walker Smith, Yankelovich Partners Inc.

I HATE the way we are viewed!! I just googled "President Bush and Generation Y". I got two, only two, matching sites. The others had some part of those words, but only two had both together and this is one. I am SO SICK of our generation being ignored and mis-interpreted. I just got done watching the State of the Union address 2006 and not one word as to our generation's future or concerns. Any other comments?

oh get over it. you are the biggest marketing demographic and will control the direction of the U.S. for decades to come. you have *no idea* what it feels to like to be "ignored" and "misinterpreted". GROW UP.

agree! your comment was nothing more than confirmation of the Gen Y need for attention - we can thank your "helicopter parents" for that. Your generation is molding the future of the World in many fantastic ways. My only concern is that you won't know what to do with your influence without your parents scheduling time for you to use it. And that will tough between "play dates."
