What Does Gen Y Think Is So Special About Berries and Cream?

Advertisers have truly tuned into what attracts Gen Yers. In a recent ad for a new flavor of starburst candies, a star is born as they introduce a creative character who sings a catchy jingle about his love for the new flavor, berries and cream.



After watching the link sent to me from a friend who said it was the funniest ad they had ever seen, I was immediately enthralled with the Little Lad. After watching the commercial I noticed there was another link to a video with the Little Lad. I curiously clicked it to find that it was not another commercial, but the Little Lad himself in a big white room teaching viewers his unique dance moves that went along with his song from the commercial.



After watching the link from the Starburst website, I went onto Youtube to see if others thought this ad was as funny as I did. When typing “berries and cream” in the search 908 videos arose varying from the actually commercial itself, the Little Lad teaching the dance and viewers own versions of it.

The companion video with the Little Lad teaching the dance demonstrates how perfectly the advertisers understand that Gen Y audiences expect more when it comes to selling them a product, or making a campaign memorable. It not only made viewers remember what the ad was for, but also created an easy outlet for the consumers to spread positive word of mouth.
